An audiovisual project commissioned by the Bologna Conservatory GBM, this piece is Bonilla’s personal vision of the Llanos Orientales, a region of Colombia. In it, the most popular genre of music in the area (the Joropo) is combined with symbols unique to two indigenous tribes who still inhabit the Llanos Orientales today.

In this personal project written for basson, electric guitar, and electronics, Bonilla experiments with electronic textures, minimalism, and free improvisation to reflect the fragmented nature of the quintessential post-modernist city.

Combined with film footage of Rome from Bologna Cineteca’s film archives, Bonilla seeks to bring life to old films and create historical memory in this piece written for orchestra.

This piece is paired with a film restored by Bologna Cineteca which portrays various stereotypes about the Romani people. Bonilla feels it is important to be aware of how film shaped and continues to shape perceptions and prejudices towards minorities and marginalized communities. The piece features alto flute, violin, viola, percussion, and electronics.
